Immigrant Genes
Contrasting the temperament of Israeli and Australian jews, I'd concluded that there might be a genetic contribution to 'craziness'. That sector of the jewish population crazy enough to settle in a swamp infested desert (!) passed on behavioural traits that make Israelis quite a distinctive bunch. Now there's a book out, arguing much the same for America versus Europe:

I heard this guy on NPR this morning. The interviewer said: "So you mean Americans are fatsoes with attention deficit disorder?"
It was funny. The guy retorted: "Not at all. I love Americans!"
The fact that he has some sort of European accent (that's how he described his nationality--European) makes me wonder...
yeah - well the corollary of having hypomanic 'adventurer' genes end up in the US, is that europe might have been somewhat depleted of their stock!
i've often also wondered whether the traditionally acclaimed beauty of scandanavian women is because the vikings roamed the earth carrying home to wed.
